Hoogbouw is onverstandig, nul-op-de-meterwoningen per saldo slecht voor het milieu en eigenlijk zou half Nederland moeten verhuizen naar Oost-Nederland. Zomaar een paar uitspraken van Ronald Rovers, schrijver van het boek Gebroken Kringlopen en wetenschapper duurzaamheid aan de faculteit Bouwkunde van de TU Eindhoven. ”Aan de Klimaattafel zaten allemaal mensen die willen bouwen of een beetje anders willen bouwen. De uitgave ‘Wood/Building the bioeconomy’ van CEI-Bois is namens Centrum Hout ook in een Nederlandse (digitale) versie uitgebracht. De uitgave bevat een schat aan milieu-informatie over hout, houtgebruik en houtbouw in Europa.
Bio-based bouwen staat in Nederland sterk in de belangstelling. Een MPG-berekening met bio-based (je spreekt het op z’n Engels uit als baio-beesd) producten geeft vaak een lagere en dus betere MPG-score.
In de Nederlandse Milieu Database (NMD) zijn inmiddels een groot aantal bio-based profielen opgenomen. Zowel de B&U-sector als de GWW-sector oriënteren zich op de toepassing van bio-based materialen. Milieudatabase.nl sprak met Fred van der Burgh en Sissy Verspeek van Stichting Agrodome over bio-based bouwen anno nu en in de toekomst.

3rd International Conference on Bio-Based Building Materials June 26th – 28th 2019, Belfast, UK
The theme of this study is the testing of biobased facade panels. Agrodome and the Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy (CoEBBE) have started a study with about eight different biobased materials and will perform tests on physical and aesthetic aspects. The tests will be performed with the help of students of the University of Applied Sciences, Avans/HZ from the Netherlands. Under supervision of CoEBBE and Agrodome.

The circular economy focuses on preventing the use of new non-renewable resources and the production of waste. Both are important to maintain a world that remains livable. Wie het woord “kurk” uitspreekt, verwijst meestal naar de stop op een fles wijn of champagne. Kurk komt echter ook prima tot zijn recht in heel wat bouwgerelateerde toepassingen, en dat zowel in nieuwe als gerecycleerde vorm.
Het is het schoolvoorbeeld van een duurzaam, “nagroeibaar” materiaal en bezit enkele waardevolle eigenschappen die de keuze voor kurk als bekleding of isolatie zeker de moeite waard maken. Bovendien zorgt de veelheid aan mogelijke afwerkingen ervoor dat “creatief met kurk” niet langer een schampere boutade is…
